Happy Little Dumplings

One thing I can never get enough of is good, cheap Asian food & dumplings in particular.
I don’t know whether it is because I ate giant bamboo baskets of it during my first pregnancy in Sydney but Ms 5 yr old loves them almost as much as her Father (born & brought up in Hong Kong) and I.
Whenever I or the family go to Sydney we always make time for Miss Chu’s in Darlinghurst or we order home (hotel) delivery.
But in Brisbane, it has been a bit of a Holy Grail-esque quest to find good dumplings – usually we are heading here, there and everywhere from Sunnybank to Darra to Farmer’s Markets to sample ,sample, sample.
So finally someone has heeded the call for a great little dumpling diner open all week with variety & at prices that will allow you to indulge in your dumpling craving whenever it hits.
On Friday, after a few specialist appointments with Ms 5 yr old we decided to head to Bulimba- to try out the newly opened Happy Little Dumplings and have a bit of a dumpling picnic in the park opposite.
It is a cute little side street diner affair with seats outside & a teepee !
But it is their dumplings that are the main attraction.
As it was the first time and there were so many options including Pork & Chive, Pork Siu Mai, Chinese Chilli Duck, Shanghai Pork & vegetarian ones Tofu & Ginger and Mushroom & Chinese Veg steaming and ready to roll that we just opted for 2 Mixed packs of 6 dumplings for $11 each and a couple of BBQ Pork Buns $3 each a couple of young Coconut Juices & headed to the park.
Utterly delicious, totally hitting the comfort food spot- fresh, authentic and “the best picnic ever” from Ms 5 yr Old.
We loved the range of dipping sauces and can’t wait to try the Prawn & Coriander ones (weren’t ready this time and Ms 5 yr old couldn’t wait) as well as the dessert Mango Pancakes & other Iced Teas available.
By the Tsunami like wave of interest – I doubt whether it will be very long before more dumpling diners are popping up (Western Suburbs next please ! ) – just hope it is those lovely ladies Candice & Mellita from Happy Little Dumplings that reap the rewards – Love your work ladies x
