When I first saw Haitian/Italian designer, Stella Jean’s runway in SS14 I was speechless. It was utterly perfect and in terms of my own personal style just connected with me immediately.

Playful but sophisticated and grown-up at the same time.

I also love how she is dedicated to ethically manufacturing and help artisanal women in disadvantaged areas worldwide.

Because of the price tag, I started researching and sourcing African Ankara print alternatives, but before I could decide, Matches Fashion went on sale and lucky for me Stella Jean  was in it.

This package arrived this week – and I am so excited for the weather to cool down a tad so I can mix and mash and play around with my new skirt.

When looking for a piece to buy there are so many options –  full midi skirt , high waisted pencil skirt, dress, matching set , pants, jumpsuit or coat. Love it all

On my sourcing travels I also came across incredible pieces at Zuvaa.com , Etsy (+ fabric if you are handy)  Mazel John and inspired pieces at Topshop and the Asos x Sika collaboration- scroll down to see a few pieces to shop.

1) With a denim shirt rolled up.

Love this casual look – the heels are great too.

2. With  Men’s Button Down Business Shirt

This is genius  – love the Saville Row stripes with it by Stella Jean herself and the addition of little crew knit cashmere by Viviana Volpicella.

3. With Stripes.

Perfection for grown-up glamour. Works well too with checks or tartan.

4. With a graphic Tshirt

Works well with all Ankara pieces I love the addition of the stripes at the belt too – lo-fi cool.

5. With a crop top

If you have a toned torso and feel brave go for it. This is a shorter length skirt too – available at Zuvaa. I like the addition of the opaques to make the skirt work transeasonally.

 6. Mashed up with other prints

This is so beautiful – works well with more Ankara African prints, florals etc.

7.   With a crisp white shirt

Simple yet showstopping. Love the maxi.
