As a working Mama with little kids, I don’t have time for high maintenance dressing.
And in my work, I teach clients how to arm themselves with a versatile wardrobe full of pieces that give instant effortless no brainer style so they can look killer in a flash and spend time actually enjoying life.
When I was pregnant and post baby I used to chuck on vintage kimonos and statement coats and stagger out in that sleep-deprived blur with big sunnies, and lipstick and people would – “Wow Sal – you always look amazing ”
“Smoke & Mirrors” believe me.
Those statement outerwear pieces took the everyday and made it instantly stylish and also distracted people from the fact that with a small baby and toddler I might have *slept in the T-shirt and trackie daks underneath.
(* slept – a term used loosely meaning drifting off & drooling on oneself in between feeds & colicky baby crying.)
The same can be said for the sleeveless duster coat.
It takes a simple jean & T-shirt combo into a new level of style as shown above. I saw this streetstyle look from the shows last year and went on a quest to find one – I had to resort to Vintage as there was nothing in the stores and runway was out of my price range but you don’t have to.
Why I Love it:
Great for transeasonal wear
Perfect for layering
Work or weekend
The key 3 Lengths
Just past Hip /Mid Thigh – harder to wear unless you are happy to embrace the boxy look as it stops at most womens’ widest point.
Just past Knee length – will help streamline the silhouette – most uniformly flattering.
Maxi ankle length – My favourite – but not for smaller girls unless you are wearing killer heels
NB We are not talking about a waterfall cardigan type gauzy thing … please – this has structure, shape even in its most fluid slouchy tailored versions.

How To Style – 7 Ways
1) Chucked over Jeans & Heels – My personal Favourite
Karla from Karla’s closet shows the Day Version
VB shows us the Evening Glam version
2) With Buttoned Shirt & Patent Chelsea Boots (love the Faux Fur Contrast )
3) With Striped Long Sleeve Marinière , skinnies & printed heels
4) Layered with Muted Tones & Funnelneck
Kendall Jenner wears it casual
or Work Chic
6) Over a Skirt or Dress
Mine is long so I often wear over a maxi dress and belt it for that 70s vibe.
7) Over Wide Leg Pants
* This is a tricky look to pull off – But if you are channeling the iconic Leandre Medine and feeling confident – go for it.
