My kids are growing up (Ms 5 and Ms 9)  but I was always a big believer in finding toys that really stayed with them and lasted.

I am also constantly inspired by Mamas out there who start new original businesses when their children come along and this Australian toy retailer deserves a moment in the sunshine.

1. Wild and Whimsical Things

Started by a Brisbane-born paediatric physiotherapist, Adrian after having her daughter Eloise, Wild and Whimsical Things is a toy store  that selects toys that not only enhance certain skills (e.g. fine motor, gross motor, emotional skills, sensory skills etc.) but are handmade, individual pieces that challenge the mainstream toy shops.

One of my particular favourites is the Tabitha limited edition doll by Dumye with special built in pocket where you or a distant loved one can leave a special message full of love, encouragement or words of wisdom.

Also these dolls  help provide jobs for women in poverty stricken India, are minimising environment impact by using 100% organic cotton, natural dyes, sustainable stuffing and recycled materials.

The best part is that for every purchase of a Dumye doll, another is gifted to an orphan or vulnerable child in need and allows them to make it their own in an art workshop.
