5 Cool Effortless Casual Outfits From the #RealStreetStars

Written by Sally

After launching #SpotMyStyle – one month ago to celebrate  #realstreetstyle and the individuality on the global streets of suburbs, small towns, cities beyond the fashion capitals of the world I have been blown away by the response of women internationally from Florida to Manchester and everywhere in between. So far over 750 posts.

But it is early days and the more the merrier. Please tell your friends to join in – xx

I want to highlight style and outfit inspo from women of all ages, shapes and ethnicities because it is what I see and am inspired by –  so many incredibly stylish women grocery shopping, the chemist, school dropoffs, events, doctor’s surgery and on instagram around the suburbs of the world from 20 – 80 years old .

There is this misnomer that to be seen as “real” or “everyday” you cannot be creative, individual or have fun .. that you need to wear activewear or stick to the agreed mum uniform and if you push the boundaries too much then you are seen as being superficial or overdressing or not being authentic.

That is just controlling bollocks –  women trying to control what other women think, wear, say and do. Not my bag at all.

I believe that everyone should enjoy the freedom of having fun with their clothes – everything in our lives is so controlled and managed that it is one area where you can  truly do whatever YOU want.

Every week I choose 5 of my favourite #realstreetstyle icons who are expressing themselves  and living out a few of my 2016 Personal Styling client mantras.

Dare More, Care Less – don’t worry what anyone will say or think – wear something that makes you feel happy and alive. #daremorecareless

Individuality is always on trend – you don’t need to be buying new things to have style – show and express yourself no matter if you made it yourself, found it in an opshop, are in your 70s or have had the piece for decades. #individualityisalwaysontrend

Live your Life in Full Colour – don’t be afraid to add some colour sparkle and joy into your everyday clothes  – don’t wait for a special occasion to express your creativity. #liveyourlifeinfullcolour

Metallics are a Neutral – don’t save sequins for nighttime – get some sparkle into your everyday and don’t save them for that special occasion. #metallicsareaneutral

Some people love a theme and so every month there is one – June is Colour and Layers – so no excuses to join in xx And everyone gets featured in the roundups. x

Here is  what I am loving from the #SpotMyStyle real streetstyle community this week in terms of some great casual – smart outfits from date night to lunch with the girls. Enjoy x

#SpotMyStyle My Top 5 this week

Real StreetStyle Roundup – Casual Everyday Cool

1. Sequins in the Daytime

Diane heeded my callout to show me how she was styling sequins. One of the few – which makes me think that maybe I need to do a How to on wearing sequins.. starting this week.

I am a big fan of sequins in the daytime and this look is so effortless and easy to emulate no matter your shape or age. The key here is to keep everything else very casual to avoid looking too blingy or overdressed. So perfectly styled with a beach print Tshirt and ripped jeans – notice Diane’s easy updo and simple Navajo inspired earrings. All adding to the boho luxe feel.

US based Diane is also in her 40s (like me) and is a great person for everyday inspiration.  She wears a wide variety of styles dependent on her mood and is incredibly creative and fearless.

I love her youthful but age appropriate take on clothes and that she expresses so many aspects of her personality.

Definitely a #realstreetstyle maven !

*Style Tip – A black/navy sequin jacket is a more muted way of wearing sequins if metallic gold, silver or pewter feels too out there. Plus just add a simple Tshirt – if you are not confident with a print – go grey marle, white or striped to pair jeans –  daytime hangs or even heading out for drinks with the girls or date night.

2.  Fur Real

Gorgeous Sunshine Coast-based Personal Stylist Maudie is a bit of a legend in terms of daily outfit posts – always so well presented and in Queensland where so many people shy away from layers because it is “not cold enough” Maudie truly understands that layers don’t have to mean extra bulk and warmth but add a level of interest.

She has found the perfect fur sleeveless knit vest that I bet will be on so many Tropical ladies’ wish list. Great to rock a bit of fur throughout the Queensland winter which lets face it never really gets cold.

You can buy @istyl’s sleeveless vest at @JustJeans and follow her for more great pieces and great shoutouts for local boutiques on the Sunshine Coast. If you need a Personal Shopper or Stylist on the Sunshine Coast – Maudie has that individual flair that wouldn’t look out of place on the streets of any international capital.  A truly stylish lady. Her website is chic styling.com.au

*Style Tip Maudie’s clever styling with dark nails and combat khakis and copper accented washed out black top that really give this fur knit vest its cool factor.

Buy @istyl’s – Fur Trim Knit Vest from  Just Jeans – sizes S M L – $89.95 – BUY NOW

3.   Buckles and Baby Blue

@Catoinamsterdam is a new member of the #SpotMyStyle community and makes me smile every time I see her posts. Such energy and joy in her clothes.

But she is also fantastic inspiration for any woman and so creative.

I adore this look and her  juxtaposition of the baby blue off the shoulder Zara stripe poplin dress with ankle strappy buckle shoes that take the look to another level – away from too “perfect” and pretty – to a cool mixture of edge and ladylike. The addition of another texture in the vintage raffia and the pop of colour on the lips just makes this a show-stopper of an outfit – perfect daytime party, lunch date.

In fact with different styling and other shoes & accessories this dress could be a great wedding option or daytime holiday wear.

Midi Poplin Dress – Zara instore or online for $70 US here – Buy Now

Similar tan buckle sandal heels here at Tony Bianco  or here at Wittner sale

* Style Tip – Off the Shoulder is such a great way to flash a bit of skin no matter your body shape or age – always looks good and great for Australian weather. Plus – strong neutral tones (khaki/tan) as opposed to beige/nude work really well with pastels.

4. Car Coat Cool

@TheMummyStyleFiles

Caitlyn is rocking the $30 Car Coat she found at Kmart (AU) – for a great casual jeans and boots outfit with a definitely individual flavour – love  her layering with CR white jeans and striped knit – the mixture of the neutral tones and addition of the blush fur texture plus the masculine feel of the coat really make this outfit so interesting and lift the look perfectly – one to try out – keep warm and look cool effortlessly.

* Style Tip – Use a sleeveless version if you are not needing warmth  – Buy Here . The boxy shape of a Melton or Car Coat is not the best option if you are curvy – opt for a more tailored structured style. If you are heavier on the bottom half – choose a coat that is slightly longer to sleekify.

5. Patterned Shift Dress

@Aquirkybird

I love this dress on Zoe so much – the shape, colours and the pattern – the icy pastel with pops of tribal orange with her platinum hair work so well – then paired with the ankle chelsea boots gives it a great everyday vibe.  @aquirkybird is definitely someone who has fun with fashion and knows her own individual style. She loves an opshop gem and vintage too – a great person to follow for sustainable style inspo or an everyday casual vibe that is interesting and vibrant-  whether or not you have kids on tow or not.

Zoe’s version was thrifted from a charity shop but here is a similar one for $20 – Buy Now

* Style Tip – Add heels, heeled booties, tights and layer a sleeveless vest or leather jacket to take this dress into nighttime or cooler days. Play around with metallics and grey tones with it too for different vibe.

Thank you all – Tomorrow is the final roundup of ankle boots and denim with some great pieces to buy.

Also have added in Wednesday as #SpotMyHMU – for those days when you are having a great hair day, love your brows or your lippy and would love to share.. no shame in the sharing of the selfless for this one – think how others can be inspired to find a good hairdresser or a colour and brand of lippy that they may never try… think of it as a public service selfie xx
