The Fab 5 – Rock Statements & Staples at Every Age

Written by Sally

We hit over 2.2k posts in the #realstreetstyle and #SpotMyStyle in its 8th week. Thank you everyone.

What is Spot My Style ?

It’s a global style inspo community highlighting women of all ages and sizes who show style, creativity, individuality and a bit of flair on the real streets of the world – not just the cool fashion bloggers but the mums, aunties, grandmas and women at work, walking the dog, heading out to errands all relatable all expressing their uniqueness and personalities – inspiring other women to break out and do the same.

Anyway.. every week I choose 5 of my favourite #realstreetstyle icons who are expressing themselves  and living out a few of my 2016 Personal Styling client mantras – Dare more Care Less – Live your Life in Full Colour – Metallics are a Neutral – Curate don’t Consume and – Individuality is always on Trend.

July is also the month of Staples and Statements and that is definitely on show too.

Here is what I am loving from the #SpotMyStyle real streetstyle community this week.

#SpotMyStyle My Top 5 this week

Real StreetStyle Roundup – Statements & Staples

1.  A Line for Awesome

While I am cold-ridden in the middle of winter this fresh holiday look from the gorgeous Florida based Diane is just what the doctor ordered. There are so many reasons I am loving it. Blue & White is a staple fresh mix of colour and has that nautical feel but there are so many reasons this makes such a cooler stylish statement. The denim T-shirt with the sporty stripes – the frayed edges of the white denim midi skirt -the all white accessories and the pop of red on the nails.  A line is a great shape to look for for spring – simple and chic but utterly divine. Check out Diane’s website or follow her on IG and FB she is such an inspiration for women of all ages on how to wear what you want no matter your age and look incredible. Plus she is possibly one of the warmest people I have met on IG – Love her loads.

2.  Colour Burst

@arune_a is a new member of the #SpotMyStyle community from Ireland and I am loving her style – this mama of two is able to seamlessly give an edgey ladylike vibe to any outfit – and is not afraid of colour – loving this floral and bright pants combo – so wearable for day or night. Metallic heels are a must in any wardrobe and add a bit of fun to an outfit over their safer nude or blush friends. Peep toes are a great alternative to add a wee retro pinup vibe

* Style Tip – Chinos are often maligned or ignored but are an easy way to wear colour or pattern – their fitted tailored waist works for those with tiny waists who often find pants hard to fit. They can be styled up for work wear, evenings or an everyday alternative to jeans. JAG do great Chinos as do JCREW and ZARA. Also find red too much on your bottom half – opt for other red tones – like maroon, burgundy and rust.

@Covermum needed to be included for rocking this incredible outfit the other day. Over the Knee boots are everywhere and look amazing when worn right. Alessandra makes a stylist statement with a mini skater skirt which i love – seeing the play on proportions and shape. She has then added in a luxe faux fur and textured turtle neck to create a beautifully youthful and chic look.

* Over the Knee Boot Style Tips
Want to rock over the knee boots and are over 40 + ?   – avoid pairing with tight short body con skirts or dresses if you want to avoid the hooch factor.

Work them with T-shirt shift mini dresses with bell sleeves for that 70s factor oversized sweater knit dresses or rock them with skinnies.

Go for lower heel ones if you want to get the most daily wear out of them.

Opt for suede over leather and check out grey and soft camel if black is not going to work for your palette.

Other folks on IG that rock them in a relatable way include @whattheteacherwears and @mummaaintmumsy.

4.  Poncho Print Clash

Deborah is known for her love of black and she wears it so well. To see her in this much colour and rocking this statement cape with a print clash is just stellar. Love the layered stripes underneath and all the amazing ombre detail of this cape.

The coat is from Suzanne Grae but is not in stock – this is the closest poncho I could find in similar colours – here  I know not even close but I did look.

She makes such a great statement and by keeping her bottom half all black it really makes this look all about the statement poncho.

5.  Mama to Be Pinafore Perfection

Jessica is a blossoming mama to be from Adelaide and I love how she is rocking this mini pinafore at 32 wks. Functional and utterly stylish – such a great combo. Jessica has is making the most of her pinafore in the winter with the add of knee high boots and tights a great option to make those mini dresses work harder – the pop of raspberry with the black and stripes just makes the whole look so cool. Love it.

  1. If I sent a million thank yous, that still wouldn’t be enough! Adding me to this group of stylish women was so flattering & means so much, Sally. It’s just so cool that social media can connect crazed fashionistas from around the world! Thank you for introducing me to a few other bloggers who I’ve not met. They have killer style instincts & love how they finished off all of their looks. I will be purchasing a new pinafore & cape thanks to the style inspiration from Jessica & Deborah! Loved that Arune paired floral motif with metallics … oh, maybe your next #SpotMyStyle challenge?!?! Alessandra nailed her look head to toe! She looks so cool & completely pulled together! Thanks again for including me on this week’s #SpotMyStyle!!! Sending much love, Diane
