Last night I was invited to the unveiling of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra extraordinary new Season 2018, led by the incredibly impressive music director Alondra de la Parra, a bit apt for #WomanCrushWednesday – seriously that woman’s talent, passion and energy is mindblowing.
This impressive new program which is all about “Let Yourself Go” and is one of contrast and adventure.
I am most excited about..
SERGIO TIEMPO – ARTIST in RESIDENCE
In a stunning coup for the Orchestra and Queensland, the 2018 Artist-in-Residence is none other than one of the most thought-provoking pianists of his generation – Sergio Tiempo. Enough said ..
Ten standout concerts headline the 2018 Maestro Series with conductors starring Daniel Blendulf, Eduardo Strausser, Stanley Dodds, Guy Braunstein, Giancarlo Guerrero and Carlos Kalmar.
Of the six visiting Maestro conductors, five will be making their debut with Queensland Symphony Orchestra (only Guy Braunstein has performed with the Orchestra before).
Soloists include double bassist Edicson Ruiz, violinists Chad Hoopes, Barnabás Kelemen and Arabella Steinbacher and a breathtaking line-up of world class pianists led by Artist-in-Residence Sergio Tiempo including Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Tamara-Anna Cislowska, Andreas Haefliger, Stephen Hough, Denis Kozhukhin and Jorge Viladoms.
Vocalists lending their voice to Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2018 include sopranos Anna Leese and Morgan England-Jones, mezzo sopranos Lilli Paasikivi and Sian Pendry, tenor Andrew Goodwin and baritones Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Christopher Tonkin.
Fridays at 11am will never be the same with their MORNING MASTERWORKS series and their MUSIC ON SUNDAYS 11.30am series bring a new meaning to Sunday Funday.
In taking the orchestra into the 21st Century and smashing some sterotypes at the same time I am really intrigued to check out their partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse for WAVE – genre-busting boundary pushing muscians groundbreaking concerts on 20 and 21 April 2018.
I bumped into lovely mate and #SunSoakedSisterhood model Mary Dickinson @bmaryd and publicist extraordinaire Kath Rose.
The invigorating season is rounded out with Chamber Players, the Choral Series and four Special Events.
Maestra Alondra de la Parra will lead from the podium, taking up the baton for 12 concerts in 2018, including four from the Maestro Series.
Why not get lost in the music and let yourself go !
