Stopping off in Brisbane for the night ? Or just need a Mid Week Staycation from schedules and the kids – 3 steps to Serenity stat.
If someone had told me that I would be scheduling in date nights or even using the term “date night” before kids, I would have snorted derisively in their faces.
Fast forward 12 years and the joke’s on us.
After 24 years together, there is no one else I would rather laugh, talk, play and get raunchy with so why is it so rare that we have extended time together . The last time we got away just the two of us was over 3 years ago !
If The Man and I get our act together to even spend a night out for dinner together or … the glamour of it .. a night at the theatre, it is either someone’s birthday, dance team rehearsals for Miss 9 have been cancelled, Ms 12’s basketball season is finished or the new season of “Killing Eve ” hasn’t started yet.
I know right ? real life with work, family & kids’ activities just sometimes gets in the way of time to play and reconnect #irl as millennials say … so
Here are my 3 steps to some mid-week serenity
….or just a banging good night out in Brisbane.
STAY AT THE NEWLY RENOVATED RYDGES SOUTH BANK
We both took an early mark and checked into our Deluxe King Suite and immediately were lolling around in robes enjoying the luxury – views, champagne. Afternoon delight indeed !
No wonder this place just got inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 2019 Queensland Hotel Association Awards For Excellence.
TREAT YOURSELF TO DINNER AT BACCHUS
A quick spruce up and easy lift ride down to the one of the most opulent fine dining restaurants in Brisbane, the multi award-winning Bacchus, led by Head Chef, Massimo Speroni, for a quick à la carte dinner with a cheeky Barossa Valley rosé before our show.
We were regaled with signature dishes from Duck ravioli and Scarlet Shrimp for entrée with Pecorino and Salmon for mains.
Bacchus is a food adventure and the staff have perfected that discreet effortlessly luxe service that only such a world renowned restaurant has.
SEE A SHOW AT QPAC
Are you a bit of a culture vulture ?
Why not indulge in Brisbane’s incredible arts & music scene with Rydges South Bank’s cool valued-added experience packages.
The beauty of Rydges Southbank is that everything is within “walking in fancy heels after a couple of glasses of vino” distance – and so we hot stepped across the road to see Opening Night of Chicago !
The only word to describe this production is sensational, musical icon Alinta Chidzay is utterly mesmerising as Velma and audience favourite Tom Burlinson shows why he is such a legend in his role as Billy Flynn.
Natalie Bassingthwaite’s performance of Roxie Hart was a revelation for me – I can’t wait to see her in more musicals as well as the incredible Casey Donovan who played Mama – I love how these two women have crossed over into this entertainment genre – they both look like they’re born to it !
Jazz hands all the way home before falling into the king size luxe bed with city lights twinkling from our window .
Woke to meditate and do yoga as the sun came up soaking in that killer view in the very heart of Brisbane, before buffet breakfast in Bacchus and a great debrief with The Man in our spot from now on !
Time for an arty shot outside Bacchus before a hug and a kiss and jumping into an Uber for an interstate Sydney work gig, while The Man headed off to work in his cycle unitard !
Ah Rydges – what a gorgeously fun getaway from scheduled reality that will keep our cups overflowing for a good wee while.
