So at the beginning of April, I posted this hair competition – open to all Australian fans of both STEELEMyStyle and the reason why my hair always looks good – my hairdresser EllieatNutSalon. Thanks to MyHairCare.com.au the winner gets $100 AUD to spend. $100 AUD people – not to be sniffed at. One of the differences between A list hair and no list hair is the right type of product. Along with a great cut & colour – the right shampoo, conditioner, treatment and styling product can make all the difference. I use EVO, Kevin Murphy and MoroccanOil products after being introduced to them firstly by my Sydney hairdressers and EVO creative director legend Leonard Newton at Desmond & Molly Jones and then through my new hairdresser in Brisvegas Ellie at Nut Salon. But these products are not cheap – ranging from $29.95 to $60 - that is exactly why you should enter and win $100 AUD to spend – it will last you at least 4 months or more. How to enter: Just “like” STEELEMyStyle and EllieatNutSalon - 2 clicks and you are in it to win it. You have until Midnight on 30 April 2013. The winner will [...]

I have often blogged about the style challenges that everyone faces including myself – stress, grief, illness, overwork, just the reality of our daily lives and without too much information I recently went on medication after suffering from a gynaecological issue for well over 8 months. Three months in and although there have been the odd side effect that I am dealing with I feel ten times better than I used to feel. In the last couple of months, my hairdresser Ellie noticed as did I that my hair was much thinner and weaker – strangely the same amount of time I have been on the medication – from forums it seems other women have experienced the same so instead of bleaching we have been playing a bit with toners. However, in the last week I felt that the situation had worsened and that rather than walk around and feel self-conscious I would take the bull by the proverbial horns and deal with it. Love this quote .. So yesterday had all my hair chopped off and am starting again. It is not the first time I have had a short pixie cut last time was in 2010, but [...]

Camouflage has been back for a while throughout Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and I have been wearing my beloved APC camouflage jacket heaps – primarily because it is the perfect transeasonal weight and I love the way it can roughen pretty sparkly things up a bit. See it most recently here but it is in high rotation on my daily Instagram #wiwt – seen in past posts here - download the app and follow me or click here to see it online. It’s is known that I live in jeans – a bit of a uniform for me come the cooler weather – and most Mamas-on-the-run that I know too. See past jeans posts on Instagram here - or here here here and here . In my mind – with a good dose of confidence, the right print & the right cut of jean – anyone can wear printed jeans. My favourite grey leopard print jeans from last year were from Kmart and I have blogged a bit in the past on FB – such as “5 great things to buy in Kmart this week” and the like. Last year I did a post about Kmart’s great $9 indigo [...]

One thing I love about my job as a Personal Stylist and Shopper here in Brisbane is teaching clients how to be more sustainable – I am not one of those fashion bloggers or people who just buy buy buy buy – firstly, I live in the reality of Mama-on-the-run with 2 kiddiwinks under 6 whom I want to give experiences to like gymnastics, piano, ju-jitsu, drama, art lessons. Secondly, I find it rather distasteful in this day and age to just consume more.. doesn’t sit well with me. So lots of pieces you will see have been worn a lot in other ways, but I think that is one [...]

Born and raised in Brisbane, Cait or Lin as she is known to her friends has just turned 20 years old and is living the dream of many women aka running a magical pre-loved store called Witch & The Wardrobe. I love meeting strong, independent & creative women of all ages and when I stumbled across the store in its opening week I was well-impressed, not just by the interesting stock but by Cait’s enthusiasm and gung-ho attitude. This inital pop-in prompted me to take a few things from my own wardrobe and head back for a STEELEMyStyle x Witch & The Wardrobe styling session and a wee chat with this up and coming Australian talent in the fashion & retail industry. Sally STEELEMyStyle : Where does the name [...]

Check out my style posts on Starts at Sixty for Silver Style tips and more. Clients and people on the street often ask me where I bought something and more often than not the more “statement” or unique pieces that I combine with my core wardrobe have been found at Vintage stores or at Secondhand shops (UK) Thriftstore (US) or Opshops as they are called here in Australia. Since Vintage became the new Black – there is a lot of dross out there now. But every now and then, you find a wee gem with inspired stock at great prices – and new store Witch & The Wardrobe by young entrepreneur Cait Provan, in the West End of Brisbane is one of those. I discovered it on a rare day sans kiddiwinks, after deciding to just “wander” into the West End after spending a leisurely 2 hours in GoMA actually taking in the APT7 in its final days.
